The Sanlorenzo SX88 motor yacht, which debuted at the Cannes Yachting Festival in 2017, is the Italian yard’s first’social’ crossover yacht. Her crossover element, aimed at a younger generation of yachters, stems from a combination of features from an explorer yacht and the classic flybridge motor yacht.
The 27-meter SX88, unlike any other motor yacht built by the Italian yard, represents Sanlorenzo’s first foray into the semi-custom market, and it has been a resounding success. The SX88 is one of the yard’s most popular semi-custom models, having sold 11 units before the first yacht was finished. Her high, strong bow lowers toward the stern, giving her impressive seaworthy abilities in all weather conditions, thanks to an original exterior design by Officina Italiana. The use of large glass windows throughout the superstructure emphasizes her expansive, open spaces. She boasts an impressive amount of interior space for a vessel her size, thanks to an entirely new interior design by Piero Lissoni. The architect and interior designer’s first collaboration was inspired by lofts and transformed the main deck into one open space surrounded by floor-to-ceiling windows.
The SX88 rethinks the traditional layout of a superyacht by moving the helm to the flybridge to fully open up the space on the main deck. The flybridge helm station can be completely enclosed and air-conditioned, and the large wraparound vertical window can be lowered for ventilation or improved views of the surroundings. Future owners can also choose to relocate the master suite from the lower deck to the main deck in order to take advantage of the expansive windows and views.
Another unique feature of the SX88 is the aft area of the main deck, which houses comfortable, exclusive sofas, coffee tables, and armchairs with glass doors leading to the outdoor area. Five steps lead to the large beach club, which has 30 square meters of space by the water’s edge. Because of the innovative design, the crane to move these watercrafts is cleverly hidden in the extended profile of the handrail so as not to ruin the exterior lines of the SX88, which is large enough to accommodate a 4.5-meter tender, jet-ski, and several toys.
The main deck’s bow area features a U-shaped sofa for lounging and sun pads for sunbathing. The flybridge remains an open area with seating and alfresco dining. The lower deck has four or five ensuite cabins, depending on the future owner’s preference, which is an unusual feature for a motor yacht of her size. Each layout option includes a full beam master suite with green glass panels on either the main deck or the lower deck, a VIP cabin, a double cabin, and a twin cabin on the lower deck. She is crewed by three people and has accommodation on the lower deck forward; she has a good crew-to-guest ratio. She has a top speed of 23 knots and a cruising speed of 12 knots thanks to three IPS 1050 Volvo engines.
